Historical Pubs

Byron Bay Writers Festival

Be inspired while enjoying a diverse line-up of international and local guests hosting a range of events from lectures, lunches, panels, launches, readings and workshops. The festival is being held from Friday 3rd August to Sunday 5th August 2012. Confirmed international guests include Katherine Boo a writer for The New Yorker and journalist Mohammed Hanif who was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize for his first novel. Australian guests include comedian Fiona O’Loughlin, along with Miles Franklin Literary award-winner Alex Miller and Gail Jones, author of two collections of short stories and five novels.

Lismore Lantern Festival

On Saturday 23rd June, Lismore becomes the backdrop to the stunning annual Lismore Lantern Parade. The first Lismore Lantern Parade was produced in 1994 by local artists and performers as a way for the community to showcase its creativity. Since then the event has grown to be Lismore’s most iconic festival, lighting the heart of the city and being enjoyed by over 25,000 people.

Brunswick Heads Old & Gold Collectibles Festival

The Old & Gold Festival is back in Brunswick Heads and celebrating its 11th year. If you’re into collectables, antiques or anything second-hand, the Old and Gold Festival in Brunswick Heads on Saturday the 9th June is for you! Find a bargain in the much loved ‘All Town Garage Sale’, where over 60 households will part with their pre-loved treasures. In addition the festival also includes a collectables fair at the Memorial Hall, Ye Olde Church garden fair with clothes and bric-a-brac plus a second-hand book fair.

There is no doubt Byron Bay loves a festival! In just over a month’s time, thousands will descend on beautiful Byron Bay over the Easter long weekend for Byron Bay Bluesfest. This year’s line up includes headliners Cold Chisel, John Fogerty Crosby Stills and Nash, Earth Wind and Fire, The Pogues, The Specials and John Butler Trio – just to name a few.

In addition to the incredible artists performing, the Bluesfest also offers abundant food stalls, market stalls, undercover chill out areas and a variety of bars. Not enough? Well, how about a large CD store, street performers and talented buskers performing throughout the day. So much to do, see and hear!

Thinking about a camping holiday in beautiful Byron Bay? The rain has cleared and the sun is shining, making it the ideal time to pitch a tent and set-up camp on one of Byron Bay’s most stunning beaches.

To make the most of your camping holiday, we have prepared a complete list of camping essentials to ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. Top 10 Essential Camping Tips

1.) Before you leave home check your gear!

Don’t ruin your camping holiday with a leaky air mattress, empty gas bottle or no tent pegs. Before you leave home check that you have all your equipment, especially your tent ropes, poles and pegs. Another tip – don’t forget to pack a hammer. 

2.) Bring enough bedding for the season

Make sure you have the right kind of sleeping bag or bedding for the season and don’t forget your pillow! Need to check the weather forecast? Than click here for our Byron Bay weather page.

3.) Tarps, tarps and more tarps

Bring tarps. A leaking tent does not make for a great camping holiday! We also have tarps available at reception.

4.) Pack a first aid kit

You just never know when you’ll need a band-aid and always remember the insect repellent and sun screen. 

5.) For a good night’s sleep bring an air mattress

Although a sleeping bag on the floor might sound more rustic, an air mattress makes all the difference. For comfort, we wouldn’t leave home without one.

6.) A can opener, scissors and power leads

They’re small…but big on our list of things to bring. Also remember to bring 15 amp power leads that are at least 20m long!

7.) Time to relax…

Don’t forget to pack a great book, frisbee or kite for the beach and a pack of cards for those long summer nights.

8.) Extra rope and pegs

For wet bikini bottoms, board shorts and towels.

9.) Esky and ice

You can grab some ice from our kiosk to fill up the esky and enjoy a sunset drink.

10.) Walking shoes

Surrounded by natural bushland and sandwiched between the Cape Byron headland and Broken Head headland, this is a great spot to explore by foot.

11.) Book the right size site

Ensure your camp site matches your needs including tent size, number of cars, available outdoor space etc.

12.) LED lighting

We are seeing less and less gas lanterns and more LED lanterns, which we love! LED is more efficient, safer and can be recharged using solar power.

Christmas is over and now is the time to slow down, enjoy some relaxed long summer days and to hit the beach! No where could be more perfect right now than Byron Bay. The park is filled with the sound of good friends, relaxed afternoon BBQ’s and happy family holidays.

If you’re thinking of planning a trip to Byron Bay there is so much to explore! Miles of unspoilt and uncrowded coastline, hinterland rainforests, diving in our marine park, learning to surf, kayaking with dolphins, cycling, yoga, massages and headland bush walks.

Of course all this holidaying is hungry work, so don’t forget to check out some of Byron Bay’s great coffee and food. Suffolk Park Bakery – Perfect spot after a morning surf for a great coffee and bacon and egg roll. Not to mention delicious pastries, salads and gluten free breads. Mmmmm…

Little Red Chilli Cafe – What says summer more than fish & chips! Bite Cafe has a great range of quick and easy summer eating options including sushi, hamburgers and fresh salads.

Suffolk Park Tavern – Great family pub with a large outdoor dining deck, kids playground and fantastic menu.

Yellowflower – Authentic home made Indian curries cooked daily. A real favourite with the locals and a great spot for a late afternoon coffee.

Byron Bay

Byron Beach Cafe – No visit to Byron Bay is complete without a meal at the iconic Byron Beach Cafe. Located on the beach, enjoy spectacular ocean and hinterland views from their large outdoor dining deck. This is a must.

The Balcony -  A buzzing cafe located upstairs in the heart of town with an eclectic bohemian décor. Great selection of share plates and dare we say the best coffee in town.

The Rails – Favourite drinking hole for locals and visitors with its large outdoor beer garden and great entertainment.

The Beach Hotel – Situated on main beach, The Beach Hotel has it all. Amazing views, great food, outdoor beer garden and entertainment. To avoid the crowds do as the locals do and come here for breakfast after an early morning swim.

Fishheads – Go for the breathtaking view and fresh local seafood. Unbeatable.

The Pass Cafe – Located right on the beach, so there’s a great relaxed vibe. Feel welcomed in sandy bikinis and wet board shorts. Also great for takeaway coffee on the beach.

Earth n Sea Pizza – This is a Byron tradition. Don’t forget to tip as the staff will ring a bell in your honour and give you a shout out! Well worth the couple of bucks. 

Bangalow

Utopia – Laid-back ambiance in the heart of beautiful Bangalow. Perfect coffee and cake pit stop after a morning of shopping.

Choux Choux Patisserie – Arguably the regions best French patisserie. Taste sensation (almost worth a trip to Bangalow alone).

Bangers Burgers – A top burger!

Newrybar

Harvest Cafe – Award-winning cafe in Newrybar blends country charm with a dash of contemporary style and an abundance of fresh produce.

Brunswick Heads

Hotel Brunswick – Our favourite pub. Offers excellent food, cold beers, and a friendly family atmosphere all set in a leafy, riverfront beer garden.
