Top Tips for Capturing Winning Travel Photos
One of the best parts of any holiday is looking back at the memories. The quick snap of your morning coffee with a view, the kids running wild through open space, or a sleepy dog curled up by the caravan - these small, ordinary moments often become the ones we treasure most.
And the beauty of travel photography is that you don’t need fancy equipment or editing apps to capture something meaningful. With a little thought and a good eye, anyone can take photos that bring the holiday feeling flooding back.
Being able to look back on these special memories is reason enough alone to brush up on your photography skills. But here’s the cherry on top: if you stay at a participating Bpro Park between 17th March – 27th April, your happy holiday snaps could win you a $100 Gift Card thanks to our Stay, Share, WIN competition!
So, if you’re ready to start snapping the sorts of photos you’ll cherish for years to come, here are our favourite travel photography tips to keep in mind.

1. Tell a Story
A great travel photo does more than show where you were, it captures how it felt to be there. Think about the story behind the image: is it the start of a day’s adventure? A quiet moment of connection? A joyful burst of freedom? Let that guide your shot.
Try to capture the feel of the moment, not just the view. A shot of your partner flipping pancakes in the camp kitchen or your kids bundled in towels after a swim might say more than the most scenic backdrop ever could.

2. Make the Most of Golden Hour
The best lighting for photography happens shortly after sunrise and just before sunset. This soft, golden light gives your photos warmth and depth, adding a dream-like quality that’s hard to replicate even with filters.
Avoid harsh midday sun if you can. If you’re shooting during the day, look for shaded areas or soft natural light filtering through trees or windows. And always make sure your lens is clean as smudges can cause glare or blur.

3. Put People in the Frame
While it’s tempting to focus on landscapes or landmarks, don’t forget to capture the people you’re sharing your trip with. Including people (or pets!) in your shots makes them more engaging and emotive. A sunset is pretty; a sunset with your kids dancing in silhouette is unforgettable.
4. Notice the Details
Not every photo has to be big and bold. Close-ups of sandy feet, a camp breakfast sizzling on the BBQ, your morning coffee with the sunrise or even a book by the riverbank can be powerful in their simplicity.
Zoom in on the things that make your trip uniquely yours. They’ll often be the photos you look back on most fondly.

5. Experiment with Angles
The same scene can feel completely different depending on how you shoot it. Instead of always taking photos from eye level, try mixing it up. Get down low to capture a child’s perspective, shoot through a tent flap for a sense of place, or hold your phone above a dinner table to catch the chaos of a shared meal.
Moving your feet - even just a little - can help you frame things in a more creative and memorable way.
6. Embrace the Candid Moments
Some of the best travel photos are the ones you didn’t plan. A spontaneous laugh, a windswept moment, a tired face at the end of a full day - they all tell a more authentic story than posed smiles ever could.
Don’t be afraid of imperfect photos. A little blur or a bit of chaos can actually make your pictures feel more real and alive.
